Artist in Residence
Courtyard Arts Gallery
In August of 2023, I had the opportunity to be Courtyard Arts Gallery's Artist in Residence. For the residency I took over the main gallery space, transforming it into a working studio. Over the course of the month I produced around eighty pieces of work, ranging from developmental studies to completed pieces. All of these explored landscapes, real or imagined, looking at using colour and mark-making to evoke feeling.
During my residency at Courtyard Arts I aimed to delve into people's relationships with the local landscape, and those farther afield. By far my favourite moments during the month were the interactions with people who visited the gallery, who too had a close relationship with the outside world, and with whom my work resonated.
Towards the end of the residency I curated my work, returning the space back into a gallery. The body of work I had created was then launched with a successful private view and a following three day exhibition. The residency was invaluable in a multitude of ways, but more than anything I learnt so much from other artists, visitors, and the very process of creating, curating, and displaying my work.
